Projet de 1928
Bien qu'issu d'une période normalement hors du domaine du « bestiaire » ce projet a retenu l'attention car il représente l'un des premiers essais pour réaliser un avion VTOL compact, débarrassé des encombrants rotors des Bréguet, Pescarra, Cornu ou Hewitt. Comme le disait l'Aérophile : « cette appareil apporte une solution inattendue au problème de la locomotion aérienne, car il ne se rattache ni à l'avion, ni à l'hélicoptère, ni à l'ornithoptère [et] si] de nombreux problèmes, notamment la descente en vol plané, seront à mettre au point dans l'appareil grandeur, leur réussite ouvrirait de nouvelles possibilités à l'aviation en nous donnant véritablement l'avion de ville ». On le voit ce gyroptère qui fut réalisé sous forme d'une maquette au 1/10 est l'antécédent des travaux actuels de Paul Möller et des « Spinners » du film Blade Runner !

While it is earlier than the intended scope of this Bestiary , the Chappedelaine Gyroptère is very interesting as it represents the first attempt at designing a compact VTOL, not encumberred by large rotors like in the Bréguet, Pescarra, Cornu or Hewitt designs.
The source article claims « this machine brings an unexpected solution to the flying machine problem because it is neither an aeroplane , nor an helicopter or an ornithopter [and while] many problems , notably gliding down with a stopped engine, remain to be tackled with a full-size machine, their taming would open full new avenues to aviation as it would bring a city aircraft to reality ». As can be seen , this gyroptere, which was built and tested as a 1/10 flying model is a direct ascendant to the current work by Paul Möller or the « spinners » seen in the movie Blade Runner
