C'est ce dernier concept qui selon Fonck est adaptable à des avions de chasse (illustré) , de bombardement ou de reconnaissance. L'idée est de placer dans le nez de l'appareil un projecteur orientable à grande ou très grande puissance capable d'éclairer l'objectif. Une arme (mitrailleuse, canon de 37mm) est fixée solidairement au projecteur. Selon Fonck , une fois pris dans le faisceau, l'avion ennemi ne peut plus en sortir grâce à la mobilité du projecteur...Pour un bombardier on peut utiliser le faisceau lumineux comme viseur avec un angle d'inclinaison du projecteur convenablement choisi en tenant compte du temps de chute et de la trajectoire des bombes.

This last concept, according to Fonck can be adapted to fighters (as shown) bombers or recce aircraft. The basic idea is to install a movable high-power searchlight in the nose of the machine to light up the target. A weapon (machine-gun or 37mm cannon) is rigidly fixed to the searchlight. Fonck claims that once spotted the enemy aircraft cannot evade the lightcone because the searchlight is movable. For a bomber it is possible to use the lightcone as sighting device provided the inlination of the searchlight is computed in accordance with theduration and the trajectory of the fall of the bombs.
L'idée du chasseur de nuit à projecteur fut testé par la RAF qui modifia 31 bombardiers Havoc en « Turbinlite ». Contrairement à l'appareil imaginé par Fonck , une fois le projecteur et ses batteries à bord il ne restait plus de place pour l'armement et c'est des Hurricane accompagnant le Havoc à qui incombait le combat. Tout cela passa vite aux oubliettes avec l'avènement du radar. Contre des objectifs terrestres par contre, le projecteur embarqué fait encore de nos jours les délices des hélicoptères de police !

The idea of a searchlight equiped nightfighter was actually tested ten years later by the RAF on 31 modified Havoc bombers. However, contrary to Fonck's hopes; once the searchlight and the batteries were on board , there was no more room for weapons. So it fell to accompagnying Hurricane to enact the kill. All this was quickly forgotten when the radar was fully operationnal. However against ground targets, searchlight are still used by police helicopters.
